It is our joy to welcome Dr. Jerry Gunnells as interim pastor.  Dr. Gunnells is certainly no stranger to Spring Hill as he was our Senior Pastor for twenty-seven years.  During his tenure here he led us in outreach and ministry to the community, increasing our Sunday School and Worship attendance.  Under his leadership we led the state in missions giving and mission involvement.  Physically, we grew through building programs which included our current Sanctuary, our preschool building and the Activities center.   

Dr. Gunnells holds degrees from Baylor University, The University of Southern Mississippi, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and The University of Mobile.  As a denominational leader, he has served as president of the Foreign Mission Board of the SBC, President of the Alabama Baptist State Convention, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.  Dr. Gunnells has been a contributing author to numerous publications including The Abingdon Pastor’s Annual Lectionary,  Lifeway’s  publications of  Life and Work, Bible Book, Explore the Bible, VBS, Proclaim and Open Windows.

Prior to his tenure at Spring Hill, Dr. Gunnells served churches in the states of Alabama, Mississippi and Texas.  After retirement, he continued his preaching and leadership ministry by serving as Interim Pastor at
FBC Fairhope, Linden Baptist Church, FBC Monroeville, Thomasville Baptist Church and most recently FBC Selma. 

Dr. Gunnells and his wife Margery have three children and nine grandchildren.
